Weight VS Cardio

Both weight training and cardio training are great for the body and definitely are recommended in order to get in shape. Although they are essential, some may be more beneficial based on your goal. Let’s start by taking a look at both pros and cons of weight training and cardio training.

Weight training

- PROs:

  • Improved strength and endurance
  • Increased muscle mass
  • Increased speed of metabolism

- CONs:

  • Risk of injury
  • Difficulty to attain proper form
  • Need of fitness equipment

Cardio training

- PROs:

  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Burns calories
  • Increased endurance

- CONs:

  • Adding stress on joints
  • Challenging and exhausting

In conclusion, weight training is better for building strength, building muscle, and burning calories in the long term. To specify, the more muscle mass you have, the more you burn calories at rest (due to increased speed of metabolism). On the other hand, cardiovascular training is better for building endurance, improving your heart rate, and burning calories in the short term.
